Hometown of the family, Lier is situated in the outskirts of Antwerp. We can trace our roots here back to the late 1700s at least! Lier is known for its lovely town square, quaint shopping, and the famous Zimmertower.
Part of the town is a walled city, of sorts, called Beginhof. This area used to be a religious sector occupied by the local nuns and monks. There are many religious icons and statues on the buildings in this area.
We then stopped for a coffee & traditional Belgian waffle break at a delicious little cafe called Poeskaffee. It is superbly run by a husband & wife team who crank out beautifully crafted and tasty dishes.
