With only three days to explore the Seattle area, we decided to take three different perspectives on the city. Day Three – The coast and wine region.
Take the Washington State Ferry from Pier 52 in downtown to Bainbridge Island. To get to the ferry building, park in Waterfront Place garage on Western Ave (or another nearby parking deck adjacent to Alaskan Way), across the street from the Pier. Cross the street, turn left and take the stairs to the upper level of the Seattle Ferry Terminal building.
Buy your tickets onsite right there at the ferry building. The cost is $8.35 per adult for round trip ticket, with free return. Total ride time is 35 minutes.
Enjoy the skyline views, looking back at the city from out on the water.
Arriving at Bainbridge Island, the boat will dock in the quaint little town of Winslow. It is a 10 minute walk to shops and restaurants on Winslow Way. Walk straight out the parking lot and go left. There is plenty to do here for easily 1/2 day.
At Madison Ave, turn left towards the marina. Take the waterfront trail back to the ferry dock.
Return to the ferry using the ramp back into the building.
No trip to Washington would be complete without wine! Back in the Seattle ferry terminal, retrieve your car and drive 30 minutes to Woodinville wine country. While there are plenty of options to enjoy, the more well known spots are Chateau St. Michelle ($10 tasting) and Columbia Winery ($10 tasting).
These three days in Seattle provide a taste of the incredible variety this area has to offer, and will definitely leave you wanting to explore more the next time!
